The Queen's Speech

After the recitation of the poem of Finn, the queen gives a speech to Hrothgar(line 1168). In it she tells Hrothgar to give the throne to Hrothulf. Is she saying this because Hrothgar was thinking of leaving the throne to Beowulf?

Im not sure what the king was thinking of doing. He wanted to adopt beowulf as a son, was it only becuase he was a great hero and he wanted his subjects to respect him (the king) even more? Also when the queen mentions her two sons in her speech, it sounded like she was sending them with beowulf. why?

im not sure. i was actually wondering that same thing. what i got out of it was that hrothgar loves beowulf now that he killed grendel and he wants to adopt him as a son. this would most likely make him next in lines as king, but the queen says that hrothulf has been loyal to the king and that he should be named the next king. i wasnt sure but it seemed like they were foreshadowing hrothulf turning on hrothgar because it said something about that happening later. hopefully i was clearing that up and not summerizing.

I think the queen is just protecting her sons. She feels no love to Beowulf and she would rather see her blood child to have the throne. I can see her point because who would rather have a stranger on the throne than your own blood.

I agree with your point Eddie, but don't you think the queen should also respect the king's intentions and the fact that Beowulf is the hero who has ended their problem with Grendel?

I don't think that Hrothgar was just saying that he would be honored if Beowulf took over after hew dies, not that he actually wanted Beowulf to step in front of his sons for the hrone.
